Spider Prevention 101

Most spiders are fairly harmless but for those who do not want these eight-legged critters to share their life space, here are some tips:

  1. Start cleaning. Spiders seek places to hide in your house and the best way to keep them out is to CLEAN! Choose plastic tubs for storage instead of cardboard boxes as spiders can gain entry into boxes. And don’t forget to dust and vacuum regularly!
  2. Take a look at the exterior of your house. Are bushes or ornamental plants touching your house? Trim them back to prevent spiders from using them as superhighways into your home.
  3. Check the exterior of your house for cracks around windows and doors or torn window screens. Caulk any cracks and crevices and repair screens.
  4. Turn off lights. While spiders are not attracted to light, many of the pests they eat are drawn to light.
