Rodents. . . 3 Things They LOVE bout Your House.

Not all pests that we battle are bugs. We wage war on a few little furry pests that may (to some) seem cute and cuddly, but the reality is – they can be very dangerous. We’ve covered the damage rodents can do in other blog posts, so today we’re going to talk about what they love about your home!
- Warm, comfortable harborage. In essence, rodents like what we like – a nice place to live, good food and plenty of water.
- Available food. Rodents eat a wide variety of materials. Garbage when left unsealed in trash cans is a buffet for hungry rodents. Bags of dog or cat food are also tempting rodents, so be sure to seal pet food in hard plastic containers. Rodents love to pack their little cheeks full of bird seed, so store bird seed in the garage in a hard plastic, sealed container. If you have fruit trees, pick up fallen fruit as mice obtain moisture and food from fruit as well. Keep all dried foods (pasta, cereal, rice, grain) sealed in hard plastic containers in your pantry.
- Available hiding places. Mice can build nests out of nearly any materials, but prefer things like cardboard and paper. They’ll carry nesting materials a distance and build a nest in the bottom of a towel drawer, for example. So if you open a drawer and find shredded paper-like materials, you have a mouse problem!
