In our previous blog post, we detailed pests’ life requirements of food, water and shelter and how they are similar to our own requirements. Today, we’ll give you tips that are achievable by ANYONE to eliminate these requirements:

Food Removal

  • Pests can survive on very little food, so judicious cleaning under appliances, in cracks and crevices and other areas will help remove this life requirement.
  • Clean spills immediately and completely when they happen.
  • Store dried foods and pet food in air-tight containers to keep pests away. Rodents are particularly attracted to pet food.
  • Don’t leave food uncovered on the counter! Always cover and refrigerate foods to prevent attracting pests.

Water Removal

  • Thoroughly clean up liquid spills when they happen.
  • Repair water leaks in faucets and water heaters.
  • Keep drains unclogged, as standing water in drains will attract small files and other pests.
  • Eliminate standing water around your property to prevent mosquitoes.

Shelter Removal

  • Trim bushes away from the sides of your home to prevent pests from using them as highways to the interior.
  • Caulk openings around dryer or other vents on the outside of the house.
  • Be sure screens have no tears or openings through which insects can enter.
  • Seal cracks and crevices around windows and doors.

Pests are tenacious, they can find their way into your home despite your best efforts to keep them out. So if pests slip into your home…remember DA Exterminating is just a phone call away! 800-650-PEST.
