The most common rodent pests are house mice. They are active year-round and live within building structures and outside. Mice droppings can cause allergies and they are also carriers of other pests like fleas, mites, ticks and lice. The pests are usually dusty gray with beady eyes and about two inches in diameter.

Mice are nimble little creatures and can squeeze through openings in walls or floor frames as small as a nickel.

Roof rats, named for their tendency to climb in upper parts of buildings, are most common in homes and are notorious in the New Orleans French Quarter, or any area congested with restaurants and residences. Roof rats are also pantry pests as they seek out stored foods. They are carriers of bacteria and germs. They can also squeeze through very small spaces down to the size of a quarter. If discovered in the house or office, they should be promptly eliminated.
